Fangirl Obsession: Spoken Word

Carly's Baby Shower (1)

I have a confession, I’ve never listened to poetry out loud before. Poetry has always been really hard for me to get so people always told me to listen to it versus reading it. That it translates 100% better auditory verses visually and they were right.  I’ve always said that I don’t get poetry and before listing to some spoken word poetry I thought I was doomed to think so for the rest of my life.

I’ve never felt anything when I read poetry before but I felt so many emotions while listing to poetry. I thought it would be really interesting to share some of my favorites with you guys today.

As I went through this list I realized that I don’t have a single male spoken word poem in my playlist. I also realized I really related to powerful messages from women. I only shared one poem from each of the amazing ladies above but most if not all of them have more online if that is something you  are interested in seeing more of their work. I’m so glad I gave this a fair try since I’m enjoying it so much. I really want to try to branch out ans find some male poets to listen to as well.

I could go on and on of some of my favorite poems I’ve recently discovered but I think this is a really good place to stop. Most of the videos are from pretty active YouTube channels meaning you could browse

  1. Aaaaaah, I love spoken word poetry! Sabrina Benaim is amazing, and I love her works. I’m hoping to read her poetry collection soon. 💖
I’ll check out the other videos you’ve shared real soon! I think you should check out Emi Mahmoud, too. She is phenomenal and her pieces always manage to get me teary-eyed.
    Great post!
